Fall Decorating and Family Fun
Hay Rides, Farm Tours, Kid's Corn Maze, Fall Pumpkins, and More!Fun for the whole family! Bring your family to the Eveland Family Farm this fall for fun and fall decorations. Start with a self-guided tour around the farm and meet the animals. We have donkeys, miniature horses, llamas, alpacas, sheep, goats, and more! Most of our animals are friendly and will love to meet you. After meeting the animals, check out our new Kid's Corn Maze and take a hay ride into the country. Relax in our picnic pavilion and pick out your Halloween pumpkins and fall decorations. We are open every fall starting in late September daily until Halloween. Pumpkins grow in many different shapes and sizes - some are tall and oval shaped, some are short and fat, and some are nearly perfectly circular. Pumpkins can weigh anywhere from just a few pounds up to 80 pounds! Smaller pumpkins are sweeter, and are preferred for eating (did someone say pumpkin pie?), while the larger pumpkins are usually used for decorating and making Jack-o'-Lanterns. Don't throw away your pumpkin seeds! You can rinse off the pumpkin seeds, place them in a pan, sprinkle them with salt and roast them in the oven. Pumpkin seeds make an excellent fall snack! Make your pumpkin last until Halloween! Don't place your pumpkin directly on cement - this will cause the pumpkin to rot faster. In order to make your pumpkins last, place a piece of cardboard or carpet between your pumpkins and the cement. Protect them from freezing temperatures if you can. The Jack-o'-LanternJack was a lazy and shrewd farmer of Irish folklore, and he had a few different encounters with the Devil. Each time Jack and the Devil met, Jack tricked the Devil into going somewhere, and then blocking his path back with a cross. The Devil made an agreement with Jack: he would never bother Jack again in exchange for his release. When Jack's time came, he was not allowed to enter Heaven because of his laziness and deceitfulness on earth. But the Devil would not accept Jack either, because he had agreed never to interfere with Jack again. The Devil gave Jack a piece of coal, which he put into a turnip to help lead his way in the dark limbo between life and afterlife. If you look closely today, you can still see Jack's coal burning dimly on Halloween as he searches for a way home. The Eveland Family Farm has a variety of other homegrown decorations for fall including cornstalks, straw bales, gourds of all kinds, and pumpkins in many sizes, shapes, and colors.
